ALDI to open first New York City store

South Windsor, Conn. – Select assortment discount grocer, ALDI, announced that it will open its first New York metropolitan area store in early 2011, located on the first floor of the Rego Park II retail development in Queens, at 61-35 Junction Blvd.

The grocer will be looking to hire staff for the Queens store in the upcoming months.  ALDI employees enjoy generous salaries and benefits, including full health care and 401k for employees who work more than 20 hours per week.

Known for its high quality, select brands at the lowest possible prices, ALDI is able to offer these popular choices without consumers having to buy in bulk. The grocer ensures its ALDI select brands meet or exceed the national name brands in taste and quality by rigorously testing its brands against the competition in its independent test kitchen in the Batavia, Ill., headquarters.

ALDI offers 90 percent of the items on a typical grocery shopping list at up to 50 percent less than the competition. At ALDI, shoppers can save an average of 30 percent to 40 percent compared to store brands at traditional supermarkets.

A grocery retailer that has grown without merger or acquisition, ALDI has gone from averaging 20 to 30 new stores per year to opening approximately 100 new locations in 2009 and plans to open approximately 100 new stores in 2010.
