A&P’s Launches Storewide Health and Wellness Platform

A&P announced the launch of a new “Live Better” health and wellness platform across all of its A&P, Pathmark, Superfresh, The Food Emporium and Waldbaum’s banner stores. This program supports A&P’s goal to further enhance the customer’s shopping experience in its stores and on the Company’s website at LiveBetterWellness.com. It includes three key components:

  • Live Better Wellness Factor Tags– a color-coded food and beverage labeling system that puts clear wellness information at customers’ fingertips while they shop
  • Improved Live Better Wellness Club – a money-saving program that affords registered customers special discounts on healthy foods, like fruits and vegetables, as well as generic pharmaceuticals and healthcare items
  • Online Live Better Resources – a website providing valuable nutritional information and a wellness advisor who can answer health-related questions

Tom O’Boyle, A&P’s Executive Vice President of Merchandising, Marketing and Supply & Logistics, says: “A&P’s new total-store health and wellness solution is designed to help customers make smart choices when they shop in our stores or online. It also shows our steadfast commitment to being our customers’ neighborhood store by continually providing shoppers with products that match their health and wellness needs.”

A major component of the program is the Wellness Factor shelf labeling system that highlights various nutritional attributes related to four specific health areas: heart health, diabetes, weight management and prevention. These labels are a quick and convenient way for customers to identify foods that are:

  • Calorie smart
  • Low in saturated fats, sodium and sugar
  • Gluten-free
  • A good source of vitamins and minerals

A universal nutrition filter, which reflects FDA standards and regulations, was used to identify more than 6,000 products that now bear the Live Better Wellness Factor Tags. The tags also contain Quick Response (QR) codes that enable shoppers with smart phones to use a QR code app to instantly connect to our LiveBetterWellness.com website – a robust online source for nutrition information and healthy recipes. The site also contains:

  • A wellness blog written by A&P’s Registered Dietitian, Jacqueline Gomes
  • An interactive feature where customers can ask Jacqueline questions about health-related topics
  • Valuable tips for healthy living and health-related news articles
  • Healthy and delicious meal options the whole family can enjoy

“Our customers’ well-being is very important to us, and this is why we provide a broad range of healthy food and beverage options in our stores,” says Jeff Maltese, A&P’s VP of Pharmacy, Health & Wellness and Drug Store. “This new Live Better health and wellness platform provides customers with helpful nutritional and wellness information they can use when they’re shopping, as well as valuable discounts on food and drug products to make it more convenient and affordable for them to live a healthier lifestyle.”

The program also offers shoppers the opportunity to join A&P’s Live Better Wellness Club for free, which provides shoppers with valuable cash-saving rewards, including:

  • A coupon for 20 percent off their next purchase of fresh produce each time a customer reaches $50 in produce spending
  • 25 percent off all Live Better, Market Spa and America’s Choice health and beauty care products

Additional benefits are offered to customers who wish to take advantage of A&P’s prescription discounts. For a one-time membership fee of $9.99, customers receive a $9.99 coupon on their next grocery store purchase of $25 or more, along with the following benefits:

  • Free prenatal and children’s generic prescription vitamins
  • 10 percent off pet prescriptions
  • $3.99 for a 30-day supply of generic pharmaceuticals
  • $9.99 for a 90-day supply of generic pharmaceuticals
