Gonnella Achieves Global Food Safety Distinction

Gonnella Baking Company is proud to announce its Aurora, Ill. baking facility has earned British Retail Consortium (BRC) Food Safety Certification. The Aurora location joins two other facilities in Gonnella’s frozen products division in attaining BRC Certification for Food Safety, having been previously certified in 2010 (Schaumburg, Ill.) and 2011 (Hazle Township, Penn.).

“BRC Certification speaks to Gonnella’s strong commitment to maintaining food safety standards and producing quality products,” says Daniel Herzog, vice president of corporate compliance, food safety. “In addition to ensuring our products are the safest available, this achievement also reduces the administrative burden on Gonnella customers by reducing the need to carry out their own audits.”

The BRC Global Standards for Food Safety are industry-leading technical standards that enable safe food and consumer products based on four key areas: production, packaging, storage and distribution. These standards have been adopted worldwide, including a growing number of North American retailers and branded manufacturers.

To become certified, Gonnella enhanced its existing robust food safety protocols, staff training, and procedures. The facilities then each met ten Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) requirements and completed a three-day internal audit by third party certification bodies.

“We are thrilled that Gonnella has been recognized globally for the quality products we have provided since 1886,” says Ron Lucchesi, president of Gonnella Frozen Products. “To attain this important certification at yet another Gonnella production location speaks not only to the standards of our facilities, but also to the quality of our staff and our products.”
