IEOOC Fires Up for a Sizzlin’ Season with Weber

The Idaho-E. Oregon Onion Committee (IEOOC) (USA Onions) will officially launch a grilling platform this September in partnership with Weber-Stephen. The grilling platform will be part of  activities associated with the Onion Committee’s marketing and promotion efforts and will focus on retail and direct to consumer based programs.

The USA Onions grilling platform will include a football tailgating or “home-gating” marketing message. Whether consumers are grilling at the game or at home with the game on TV, they will be encouraged to make USA Onions part of their experience.

“This season marks the beginning of what we hope will be a long term platform to include grilling with onions. We have selected Weber to provide the grills and accessories for our grilling platform,” says Sherise Jones, marketing director for the IEOOC. “Grilling enhances the flavor profile of our onions. While our raw onions are somewhat more pungent, they actually contain more sugar than sweet onions. Grilling brings out their wonderful sweetness and mellow onion flavor.”

Some of the new promotion initiatives include the following:

  • Retail Onion/Grill Display Incentives

Beginning September 1 through December 1 – while supplies last, custom Weber charcoal grills provided to retailers upon request, free of charge, for in-store displays provided they meet the terms and conditions.

Terms and Conditions:  within 30 days of receipt, retailer will forward a photo of the display incorporating USA Onions and the grill along with a copy of an invoice verifying purchase of USA Onions. Failure to forward the requested materials will result in an invoice for cost of grill plus shipping and handling.

  • Special Retail Display Contest – Bowl Season

From December 15, 2012 (College Bowl Season Start) through Super Bowl Sunday (February 3, 2013), retailers will be encouraged to create a USA ONIONS/Weber-Stephen Products LLC display for at least one week during this timeframe and submit photos by February 28 to will receive a Weber’s Time to Grill cookbook as a premium for entering and chance to win larger Weber prizes for award winning displays.

  • In-Store Sweepstakes

During the time period of September 1, 2012 through Super Bowl Sunday, weekly and monthly sweepstakes winners will be randomly selected from retail customers that have obtained a sweepstakes tear-off sheet at their local retail market and have entered the code provided on the sheet online at www.USAOnions.com. Entrants will have a chance to win a weekly drawing for a Weber’s Time to Grill cookbook and/or USA Onions customized Weber kettle grill randomly awarded each month during the sweepstakes. On Superbowl Sunday, a Grand Prize winner of the in-store sweepstakes entries will be selected to receive a large Weber gas grill.

As an extra incentive, retailers will have a chance to win same prize their customers win if the winning customer enters their retailer’s information when they enter online.

  • Facebook Sweepstakes

Daily and weekly Facebook sweepstakes will take place from September 1, 2012 through Super Bowl Sunday. A random daily drawing from “Likes” for a free Weber’s Time to Grill cookbook and a weekly drawing from Facebook fans that have posted their grilling experience on Big Onions Facebook page will occur during football season. A Grand Prize drawing will be held on Super bowl Sunday and a winner will be randomly selected from all the Big Onion Facebook likes to receive a large Weber Gas Grill. The winner will be announced on Facebook during pre-game of the Superbowl.
