New England Produce Council Inc. Partners Up to Help Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts

On Friday November 9th, NEPC, the Greater Boston Foodbank and the New England Produce Center collaborated their efforts in putting together a truckload of fresh produce to be delivered to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey.

Don Shapiro Produce generously received and staged all the product that was donated by various companies. Our sincere thanks go out to Dole Fresh Vegetables, Gold Bell Inc., Bonafede, D’Arrigo, State Garden, S. Strock & Co., Inc., 4M Fruit Distributor, Peter Condakes Co., Community Suffolk and Don Shapiro Produce.

Bob McGowan, NEPC president, recognized that our organization had to help out in some way and thought sending fresh produce would be a good option. So, Laura Sullivan worked together with Cheryl Blanton of the Greater Boston Foodbank and through the generosity of our membership, we were able to fill a truck. The NEPC contributed the cost of the truck to help our neighbors in the NY/NJ area that were affected by Hurricane Sandy. In addition, the NEPC made monetary donations to the Red Cross and to Food Banks in the area. Our thoughts and prayers are with our friends in New Jersey and New York during this difficult time.
