Sometimes it is important to make chicken salad out of chicken…..
That is what Kraft Foods pulled off during the Super Bowl, specifically when the lights went out in New Orleans and 150 million people watching the game on TV had nothing to do. The company quickly tweeted that the lights going out in New Orleans should be no problem. It tweeted, according to C/Net, “Power out? No Problem.” And, that was followed by a quickly-developed ad showing an Oreo and the tagline, “You can still dunk in the dark.”
Thus far, C/Net reports, nearly 14,000 retweets have been reposted. Quick thinking during a strange moment at the Super Bowl.
Anyone watching the Super Bowl this evening saw a great game — and one of the greatest embarrassments in pro sports history: a power outage that halted play for a full half-hour.
As the eventual champion Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers — and tens of thousands inside New Orleans’ Superdome and millions watching on TV — waited, Oreo came up with an idea so brilliant and bold that it out and out won the night.
“Power out? No problem,” the tweet read, along with a hastily put-together image of an ad showing an Oreo and the terrific tag line, “You can still dunk in the dark.”
The tweet caught fire, and as of this writing had been retweeted 13,734 times.
