Ahold USA named among the “Top Supplier Diversity Programs for Women”

Professional Woman’s Magazine has named Ahold USA among the “Top Supplier Diversity Programs for Women” for 2013 as a result of the company’s commitment to working with diverse and women-owned businesses. This 14th annual review is an evaluation of the nation’s employers, initiatives, government agencies, and educational institutions, compiled from market research, independent research, diversity conference participation and survey responses. Professional Woman’s Magazine covers news information ranging from professional concerns to civic affairs, trends, diversity careers and business.

Ahold USA’s signature efforts to work with local and diverse businesses include hosting annual trade local/diverse business opportunity fairs, events which strengthen the company’s connection to prospective local agricultural and diverse businesses. 2013 events were held on February 6, 2013 in Quincy, MA and September 11, 2013 in Carlisle, PA.

“As a responsible retailer, we continue to maintain our strong commitment to developing business opportunities with women and minority owned companies who can supply their products and services to our customers,” said Jodie Daubert, senior vice president, sales development, Ahold USA. “We’re pleased to be nationally recognized by Professional Woman’s Magazine and proud to work with these companies to offer their products and services in our stores.”

During both the 2013 Quincy and Carlisle events a total of 81 companies were given the opportunity to have their products reviewed by Ahold USA Procurement Teams for potential placement through its retail divisions in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic. Many of the vendors who participated have businesses headquartered within the Ahold USA geographic footprint. Attendees included representatives of women and minority-owned businesses.

“The Suppler Diversity event provided us with a wonderful opportunity to showcase our products as well as begin what we hope will be a long term relationship with Ahold USA and their fine stores in our area,” said Debra Kaufmann, Gator Ron’s Zesty Sauces and Mixes. “We were really impressed with the Ahold USA event. They tried very hard to make sure potential vendors are aware of the processes and requirements so that there are no surprises and a win/win all around.”

“This is a huge opportunity for a small company to meet with senior buyers of a large company such as Ahold USA,” added Maria Kardamaki Robertson, Demeter’s Pantry. “By meeting with the Supplier Diversity team, I feel that we have additional support inside Ahold USA working for my company.”
