Crown Imports announced that “Corona Cares,” the highly cornerstone initiative of Crown’s corporate social responsibility program, raised $150,000 in North Carolina this year to benefit patient and family support programs at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Over the past four years, “Corona Cares” has generated more than $500,000 to these programs.
“These donations mean so much to our program and the patients we serve,” says Donald Rosenstein, MD, director of the UNC Comprehensive Cancer Support Program. “Private funds, like this generous support from the ‘Corona Cares’ program, allow us to reach more patients and their caregivers through cancer treatment, recovery and survivorship.”
The nationally recognized cancer support program provides a wide range of services, such as free educational materials for newly diagnosed patients and sessions with a cancer nutritionist for patients who have trouble eating normally during treatment. The program also provides more than 1,500 head coverings each year for patients who are losing their hair as a result of cancer treatment, gas cards for patients who must drive long distances to get treatment, educational programs, counseling and support groups.
“We would also like to extend a big thanks to our wholesalers, retailers and customers for supporting UNC Lineberger and making this year another success for ‘Corona Cares,’” says Bill Marren, market development manager at Crown Imports.
The “Corona Cares” program was initiated in 2005 by Crown Imports and local wholesalers to benefit sick kids and their families at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. It has since spread to additional markets and benefits other charities. Crown Imports, Corona’s exclusive U.S. importer provides all of the necessary program tools to wholesalers including, “Corona Cares” paper limes that are sold in retail accounts, customized pennant strings, and graphics for creating banners and posters. At the N.C. Cancer Hospital, funds will support programs that benefit patients and families receiving cancer treatment.
Local wholesalers participating in 2013 include:
- Long Beverage
- Coastal Beverage Company
- R.A. Jeffreys Distributing Company
- Carolina Premium Beverage
- R.H. Barringer Distributing
- Skyland Distributing Company
- United Beverage Hickory
- United Beverage Salisbury
- Healy Wholesale Co.
Crown Imports and all of the Corona wholesalers across the state committed 25 cents of every case of Corona Extra and Corona Light sold this past August and 100 percent of the donations from paper lime purchases to the N.C. Cancer Hospital, which treats patients from all 100 North Carolina counties.
