In case you haven’t heard, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues is coming out on December 18th. Although I don’t know how anyone could have possibly missed it. Will Ferrell has been on a press tour – in character as Ron Burgundy – that would put most presidential candidates to shame.
Not content with just a press tour, Anchorman 2 has blitzed the public with marketing partnerships. Burgundy is invading our grocery stores with products like Ben & Jerry’s Ron Burgundy’s Scotchy Scotch Scotch ice cream and Miller Light in retro packaging that has reverted to the original 1975 design.
A fan of butterscotch, I’ve been trying to find the ice cream for the past few weeks, but to no avail. Ben & Jerry’s website offers a crowd-sourced “Flavor Locator,” but Scotchy Scotch Scotch is so new (and apparently good) that even the stores listed seem to be out. Always one to go out of my way for my craft, I made a special trip to an actual Ben & Jerry’s store where I was assured by phone that they had the flavor. As luck would have it, they closed early that evening and I was left wondering. Maybe someday it’ll go down, down into my belly…
I digress; the first Anchorman movie is very funny (and very quotable), but this massive marketing campaign begs the old question – is there such a thing as too much of a good thing?
