Lawrence Foods Recognized for 2013 Illinois Governor’s Sustainability Award

Lawrence Foods was presented with an Honorable Mention for the 2013 Illinois Governor’s Sustainability Award by John Mulrow, Business/Industrial Sustainability Specialist, ISTC, at the corporate headquarters on December 11, 2013.

The Honorable Mention category was added in 2013 to recognize 14 businesses that have demonstrated their commitment to environmental stewardship. The current award follows last year’s recognition for winning top honors.

Lawrence Foods has been a manufacturer of bakery ingredients since 1890. It is still a family-held company, under the leadership of the third and fourth generations. The LFI family takes pride in the reputation the company has established as a customized solutions provider and business partner.

Marc Lawrence, COO, has continued to charge his team with responsibility for improving manufacturing efficiencies and waste reduction: “We were honored to be recognized in 2012, but the challenge is an on-going effort. Our goal is to be best-in-class for efficiency, sustainability and conservation,” he says.

Marc’s team again produced significant project completions in 2013 including Insulation improvements saving over 60,000 kWh over a nine month period, the installation of a new steam generator, which reduces natural gas consumption by 10% annually, and an initiative including incentives encouraging the Company’s suppliers to increase recyclability of packaging materials.

Les Lawrence, CEO, takes pride in the LFI heritage: “The vision of excellence and service originally conceived by my father and grandfather has found continuing expression under Marc’s energetic leadership. Historical commitments of service to community connect strongly to responsible environmental stewardship, and I commend our management team for their focus on these important objectives,” he says.

Lawrence Foods is a full line manufacturer of bakery ingredients. LFI services a broad customer base, from retail bakers through CPG industrial customers. Production capabilities include fruit fillings and toppings, icings and glazes, confectionery ingredients such as fondant and rolled fondant, dips and spreads and dry mixing. The company is headquartered in Elk Grove Village, Ill.
