As licensing partners, Pillsbury and Uncle Wally’s made a joint commitment to develop these gluten-free muffins., company officials say. Pillsbury Gluten Free Muffins, which are individually wrapped for on-the-go convenience, are certified gluten free by the Gluten-Free Certification Organization. This assurance is important for consumers who must avoid gluten – a protein in wheat and related grains – for health reasons such as the serious digestive condition known as celiac disease, officials add.
“Consumers have never before had the opportunity to buy this type of fully baked and ready-to-eat gluten-free product from a trusted brand such as Pillsbury,” says Jerry Ceccio, Uncle Wally’s vice president of sales and marketing. “When a product bears the Pillsbury name, consumers can feel confident the product is truly gluten free and that it will be top quality. Uncle Wally’s is very excited to be entrusted with this iconic brand.”
Pillsbury Gluten Free Muffins are available in Blueberry and Chocolate Chip, with more flavors to come. They are currently being sold at Wegmans Food Markets, Ingles Markets, ShopRite Supermarkets and Giant Eagle Stores. Plans are being made for national distribution in 2014.
Gluten free is one of the fast-growing sectors within the food industry. In addition to consumers who avoid gluten due to celiac disease, gluten sensitivities and allergies, others simply want to reduce the amount of wheat in their diet. Pillsbury Gluten Free Muffins are made from high-quality rice flour and all of the best ingredients consumers look for in a home-style muffin, company officials say.
Pillsbury Gluten Free Muffins are sold four to a package (4-1.75-ounce.; net weight 7-ounces) at a suggested retail price of $3.79-$4.99. They are ready-to-eat and can be found in the grocers’ all natural frozen category.
