CMI is celebrating Earth Day over a weeklong period in April by giving away fruit trees to their social media fans. Leading up to Earth Day on April 22, followers that join CMI’s special promotion are being randomly selected to win fruit trees that they can plant at home. The celebration is culminating in a major giveaway of three fruit tree trios – each consisting of an apple, pear and cherry tree – drawn on Earth Day itself.
Throughout the Earth Day tree giveaway promotion, social media followers are able to share insights into what they are doing to celebrate the planet. From growing plants from seeds, recycling, picking up trash and using reusable grocery bags, CMI’s Facebook fans are clearly environmentally conscious, according to officials.
This promotion was created to honor Mother Earth and reflect on all of the natural elements that support bountiful Northwest fruit crops: From the stunning Northwest sunshine; the glorious fresh Washington air; and the plentiful rain that gathers in the Cascade Mountains and feeds orchards along the Columbia River, say company officials. They add that CMI growers do what they can to care for the environment, including reducing fruit wastage by using surface damaged fruit for value-added products, such as juice and pie filling, and composting it for future tree fertilization. Investments are being made in new state of the art packing facilities equipped with earth-friendly technologies.
