Seth Mendel­son is the pub­lisher and edi­to­r­ial direc­tor of Mac­fad­den Com­mu­ni­ca­tions, over­see­ing mul­ti­ple titles across many key cat­e­gories. Seth has been a jour­nal­ist since grad­u­at­ing from Syra­cuse Uni­ver­sity in 1980. He was a sports­writer and newswriter for Gan­nett News­pa­pers, before becom­ing an edi­tor at Mass Mar­ket Retail­ers, Non­foods Mer­chan­dis­ing and Super­mar­ket Busi­ness. Also, Seth was pre­vi­ously edi­tor in chief of Retail Mer­chan­diser. He has been quoted in a num­ber of pub­li­ca­tions, includ­ing The Wall Street Jour­nal, The New York Times and many regional newspapers.

With more than 20 years of indus­try expe­ri­ence under his belt, includ­ing more than five with Gro­cery Head­quar­ters, Richard Turcsik is a walk­ing ency­clo­pe­dia of super­mar­ket knowl­edge. As exec­u­tive edi­tor he is respon­si­ble for much of the magazine’s con­tent, includ­ing the pop­u­lar Retail Spot­light fea­tures, cover sto­ries, news arti­cles, cen­ter store and per­ish­ables fea­tures, as well as the Trade Talk, In the Aisles and Pro­mo­tion Cor­ner sec­tions. If Richard didn’t write for GHQ he would be “work­ing undercover.”

Gro­cery Head­quar­ters’ man­ag­ing edi­tor, Kim Zim­mer­mann has been with GHQ since Feb­ru­ary 2007. Her main respon­si­bil­i­ties include edit­ing as well as writ­ing fea­tures and news items about equip­ment and tech­nol­ogy. She has been in business-to-business pub­lish­ing for most of her 25-plus-year career, which spans pub­li­ca­tions and web­sites cov­er­ing retail, tech­nol­ogy and con­sumer goods. Kim is a New Jer­sey native and a grad­u­ate of Glass­boro State Col­lege (Rowan Uni­ver­sity), with a degree in communications/journalism.

When his dreams of play­ing pro­fes­sional hockey died due to lack of skill, Craig turned to writ­ing. After doing some time on the PR side, he began his jour­nal­ism career with Mac­fad­den in 1995 work­ing for Dis­count Mer­chan­diser and Super­mar­ket Busi­ness. He has been with Gro­cery Head­quar­ters since 2008. Despite dis­cussing the gro­cery indus­try five days a week, one of his favorite pas­times is going gro­cery shop­ping with his wife and daugh­ter. In addi­tion to walk­ing super­mar­ket aisles, Craig still plays mens league hockey and takes long week­end bike rides to stay in shape.

A grad­u­ate of Rut­gers Uni­ver­sity in New Brunswick, N.J., Carol has a degree in journalism/communications. Hav­ing joined the staff of Gro­cery Head­quar­ters mag­a­zine more than a decade ago, Carol has writ­ten about every cat­e­gory in the super­mar­ket. Cur­rently, her main respon­si­bil­i­ties include spear­head­ing the Sell­ing Well­ness sec­tion each month, help­ing out with non­foods fea­tures as well as man­ag­ing sev­eral of the company’s spe­cial projects each year. A New Jer­sey native, Carol, her hus­band Greg and three Nova Sco­tia Duck Tolling Retriev­ers, now live in the Green Moun­tains of Ver­mont. Out­side of work, she’s an avid out­door­swoman, who enjoys spend­ing her lunch hour hik­ing with her dogs and week­ends ski­ing, moun­tain bik­ing, kayak­ing, grow­ing organic veg­eta­bles or cruis­ing around on their Harley.

Deena began her career cov­er­ing retail tech­nol­ogy when she joined Super­mar­ket News’ Tech sec­tion in 1996. Since then, she has held lead­er­ship posi­tions as a full-time edi­tor for indus­try pub­li­ca­tions includ­ing RT/RETAILTECH, Chain Store Age and CSA’s Retail Tech­nol­ogy Quar­terly. Deena has spent more than seven years cul­ti­vat­ing a free­lance edi­to­r­ial career, a move that has pro­vided her the oppor­tu­nity to become a reg­u­lar con­tribut­ing edi­tor for Gro­cery Head­quar­ters. Deena and her fam­ily are based on Long Island, N.Y.

Eliz­a­beth joined the GHQ team in Octo­ber 2010 to indulge her pas­sion for writ­ing, ask­ing ques­tions, eat­ing exor­bi­tant amounts of food and meet­ing indus­try celebri­ties, such as the Dough­boy. When ELH isn’t bring­ing you the lat­est news from the fresh cat­e­gories, she likes to bake cup­cakes, blog about her attempts to get fit while stay­ing true to her cheese-cravings, snow­board trails too advanced for her skills and run long dis­tances. Oh, and eat! She eats a lot… mostly cheese!

Tom joined the gro­cery indus­try press in 1994 after a three-decade career in daily news­pa­pers. He was exec­u­tive edi­tor of Gro­cery Head­quar­ters before retir­ing from full-time duties at the end of 2007. He has also served as editor-in-chief of Super­mar­ket Busi­ness and Pro­gres­sive Gro­cer, and had a brief stint as a free­lance writer cov­er­ing the super­mar­ket industry.

Mau­reen Mills has been GHQ’s Art Direc­tor for sev­eral years now; first in the Windy City and now in New York. Pre­vi­ous to this she has spent time design­ing children’s cloth­ing, cre­at­ing labels and ads for nutri­tional prod­ucts, man­ag­ing and main­tain­ing web­sites and try­ing to stay out of trou­ble. She enjoys design­ing fea­tures about food…but wishes more “sam­ples” were sent to her home for “research pur­poses.” In her free time, Mau­reen likes to go out and see live music, run along Lake Shore Drive with her grey­hound, Wes, paint, act silly with her ten nieces and nephews and bake fancy cupcakes.

Ran­dall C. (Randy) Ham­mett has been on the sales staff of the mag­a­zine since 1994.  He calls on adver­tis­ing cus­tomers and agen­cies in the Mid­west.  He grad­u­ated from Drake Uni­ver­sity in Des Moines, Iowa, with a BA degree in Journalism/Advertising and a minor in Mar­ket­ing.  Before com­ing over to business-to-business pub­lish­ing Randy held a num­ber of sales, mar­ket­ing and man­age­ment posi­tions with the Chicago Tri­bune.  He is an avid golfer and gar­dener and fol­lows all of the Chicago sports team.  He is the father of three grown chil­dren and dotes when he can on his four grandchildren.

Steve Werner has been with Gro­cery Head­quar­ters since 2000, focus­ing on the sales for the Non-Foods cat­e­gories. His accom­plish­ments at GHQ include devel­op­ing effec­tive media pro­grams and help­ing to grow the num­ber one pub­li­ca­tion in the indus­try. When not work­ing, Steve likes to spend time with his fam­ily and watch sports (Go Chicago Bears!). When asked what he would do if he didn’t work at GHQ, Steve says “be on a beach somewhere.”

Since 2004, Mike Wein­re­ich has been respon­si­ble for Gro­cery Head­quar­ters’ sales for in the North and South­east regions. Some of Mike’s pro­fes­sional and per­sonal accom­plish­ments include sell­ing retail trade adver­tis­ing for over 20 years, hav­ing a won­der­ful fam­ily and get­ting out of three tick­ets this year. Out­side of schmooz­ing with GHQ’s part­ners, he enjoys spend­ing time watch­ing ice hockey with his son and bas­ket­ball with his daugh­ter. If Mike wasn’t work­ing GHQ he would be nap­ping on a beach—but not nec­es­sar­ily the same beach as Steve.

They han­dle the eleven west­ern states, Alaska, Hawaii and the two west­ern Cana­dian Provinces. They also han­dle National Fresh Sales for the Pro­duce, Meat, Seafood and Poul­try cat­e­gories. Melanie joined the Gro­cery Head­quar­ters team in Sep­tem­ber 2011. Prior to GHQ, she stud­ied Media Com­mu­ni­ca­tion and Film Stud­ies at The Col­lege of Charleston and worked as a media plan­ner for the enter­tain­ment indus­try. On days off she enjoys loung­ing around her condo in Brook­lyn, scop­ing out trendy bars and eater­ies and spend­ing time with her French bull­dog, Marnie.
