Seth Mendelson is the publisher and editorial director of Macfadden Communications, overseeing multiple titles across many key categories. Seth has been a journalist since graduating from Syracuse University in 1980. He was a sportswriter and newswriter for Gannett Newspapers, before becoming an editor at Mass Market Retailers, Nonfoods Merchandising and Supermarket Business. Also, Seth was previously editor in chief of Retail Merchandiser. He has been quoted in a number of publications, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and many regional newspapers.

With more than 20 years of industry experience under his belt, including more than five with Grocery Headquarters, Richard Turcsik is a walking encyclopedia of supermarket knowledge. As executive editor he is responsible for much of the magazine’s content, including the popular Retail Spotlight features, cover stories, news articles, center store and perishables features, as well as the Trade Talk, In the Aisles and Promotion Corner sections. If Richard didn’t write for GHQ he would be “working undercover.”

Grocery Headquarters’ managing editor, Kim Zimmermann has been with GHQ since February 2007. Her main responsibilities include editing as well as writing features and news items about equipment and technology. She has been in business-to-business publishing for most of her 25-plus-year career, which spans publications and websites covering retail, technology and consumer goods. Kim is a New Jersey native and a graduate of Glassboro State College (Rowan University), with a degree in communications/journalism.

When his dreams of playing professional hockey died due to lack of skill, Craig turned to writing. After doing some time on the PR side, he began his journalism career with Macfadden in 1995 working for Discount Merchandiser and Supermarket Business. He has been with Grocery Headquarters since 2008. Despite discussing the grocery industry five days a week, one of his favorite pastimes is going grocery shopping with his wife and daughter. In addition to walking supermarket aisles, Craig still plays mens league hockey and takes long weekend bike rides to stay in shape.

A graduate of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J., Carol has a degree in journalism/communications. Having joined the staff of Grocery Headquarters magazine more than a decade ago, Carol has written about every category in the supermarket. Currently, her main responsibilities include spearheading the Selling Wellness section each month, helping out with nonfoods features as well as managing several of the company’s special projects each year. A New Jersey native, Carol, her husband Greg and three Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers, now live in the Green Mountains of Vermont. Outside of work, she’s an avid outdoorswoman, who enjoys spending her lunch hour hiking with her dogs and weekends skiing, mountain biking, kayaking, growing organic vegetables or cruising around on their Harley.

Deena has spent more than seven years cultivating a freelance editorial career, a move that has provided her the opportunity to become a regular contributing editor for Grocery Headquarters. When ELH isn’t bringing you the latest news from the fresh categories, she likes to bake cupcakes, blog about her attempts to get fit while staying true to her cheese-cravings, snowboard trails too advanced for her skills and run long distances. Tom joined the grocery industry press in 1994 after a three-decade career in daily newspapers. He was executive editor of Grocery Headquarters before retiring from full-time duties at the end of 2007. He has also served as editor-in-chief of Supermarket Business and Progressive Grocer, and had a brief stint as a freelance writer covering the supermarket industry.

Maureen Mills has been GHQ’s Art Director for several years now; first in the Windy City and now in New York. Previous to this she has spent time designing children’s clothing, creating labels and ads for nutritional products, managing and maintaining websites and trying to stay out of trouble. She enjoys designing features about food…but wishes more “samples” were sent to her home for “research purposes.” In her free time, Maureen likes to go out and see live music, run along Lake Shore Drive with her greyhound, Wes, paint, act silly with her ten nieces and nephews and bake fancy cupcakes.

Randall C. (Randy) Hammett has been on the sales staff of the magazine since 1994. He calls on advertising customers and agencies in the Midwest. He graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, with a BA degree in Journalism/Advertising and a minor in Marketing. Before coming over to business-to-business publishing Randy held a number of sales, marketing and management positions with the Chicago Tribune. He is an avid golfer and gardener and follows all of the Chicago sports team. He is the father of three grown children and dotes when he can on his four grandchildren.

Steve Werner has been with Grocery Headquarters since 2000, focusing on the sales for the Non-Foods categories. His accomplishments at GHQ include developing effective media programs and helping to grow the number one publication in the industry. When not working, Steve likes to spend time with his family and watch sports (Go Chicago Bears!). When asked what he would do if he didn’t work at GHQ, Steve says “be on a beach somewhere.”

Since 2004, Mike Weinreich has been responsible for Grocery Headquarters’ sales for in the North and Southeast regions. Some of Mike’s professional and personal accomplishments include selling retail trade advertising for over 20 years, having a wonderful family and getting out of three tickets this year. Outside of schmoozing with GHQ’s partners, he enjoys spending time watching ice hockey with his son and basketball with his daughter. If Mike wasn’t working GHQ he would be napping on a beach—but not necessarily the same beach as Steve.

Their combined experience brings a wealth of information to their clients.
